Possible Causes
Shorted inlet thermistor, Thermistor leads touching metal or each other, Moisture inside thermistor connector, Damaged harness insulation
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the dryer and wait for internal components to cool.
- Access the inlet thermistor: Remove the top or front panel (depending on model) to reach the drum inlet or heater housing area where the inlet thermistor is mounted.
- Visual inspection: Check for melted plastic, burned wires, or moisture around the thermistor and connector.
- Test the thermistor: Disconnect the thermistor and measure resistance. A reading near 0 ohms indicates a shorted sensor. Also check the harness for continuity to ground; there should be none.
- Repair wiring: If wires are shorted to each other or to metal, cut out damaged sections and splice in new high-temp wire with proper connectors.
- Replace the thermistor if shorted: Install a new inlet thermistor, secure it properly, reconnect the harness, reassemble the dryer, and run a test cycle to verify correct operation.
