Possible Causes

Moisture sensor bars shorted together by foreign object, Wires to sensor shorted, Moisture or lint bridging sensor terminals, Failed sensor circuit on control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power before inspecting the sensor wiring.

  • Inspect inside the drum: Look at the moisture sensor bars for any metal objects (coins, pins) or wet lint bridging the bars. Remove any debris.
  • Clean the sensor bars: Wipe the bars with rubbing alcohol to remove residue that may cause false readings.
  • Check wiring behind the bulkhead: Remove the front panel to access the sensor wiring. Ensure the two sensor wires are not pinched together or touching metal.
  • Test for shorts: With the harness disconnected, measure resistance between the two sensor wires; it should be open when the bars are dry and not bridged. A constant short indicates wiring or sensor failure.
  • Replace sensor assembly if needed: Install a new moisture sensor assembly, reconnect wiring, reassemble the dryer, and test an automatic cycle.
