Possible Causes
Failed gas valve coils, Defective igniter, Open flame sensor, Blown thermal fuse
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the dryer and shut off the gas supply valve before servicing. If you smell gas, ventilate the area and do not operate the dryer.
- Observe ignition attempt: With panels in place, start the dryer and listen for a click and burner ignition. If the igniter never glows, suspect the igniter or thermal fuse. If it glows but no flame appears, suspect gas valve coils or gas supply.
- Access burner assembly: Remove the lower front panel or front panel to reach the burner, igniter, flame sensor, and gas valve coils.
- Test the thermal fuse: Locate the thermal fuse on the blower housing and test for continuity. Replace if open and also clean vents to prevent recurrence.
- Check the igniter: Inspect for cracks and test resistance; an open igniter must be replaced.
- Test flame sensor: With the dryer unplugged, test the flame sensor for continuity at room temperature; it should be closed. Replace if open.
- Replace gas valve coils: If the igniter glows and then shuts off without flame, replace the gas valve coil set on top of the gas valve body.
- Reassemble and test: Restore gas and power, check for leaks with a soap solution at connections, and run a test cycle to confirm proper ignition and heating.
