Possible Causes
Open heating element, blown thermal cutoff, blown high-limit thermostat, loose or burned wire at heater assembly
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Unplug the dryer. Electric heater circuits carry 240V and can cause severe shock.
Steps:
- Check power: Verify the dryer has full 240 VAC at the outlet and terminal block. A missing leg can cause no heat.
- Access heater assembly: On many Kenmore models, the heater is in a metal housing at the rear or bottom. Remove the rear panel to access.
- Inspect wiring: Look for burned or disconnected wires at the heater, thermostats, and thermal cutoff.
- Test components: With a multimeter, check continuity of the heating element, thermal cutoff, and high-limit thermostat. Any open component must be replaced.
- Replace failed parts: Install a new OEM heater element and/or thermostats as needed. Always address vent restrictions that may have caused overheating.
