Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Unplug the dryer or switch off the breaker before any disassembly. Capacitors on the control board can hold a charge briefly after power is removed.
Steps to try:
- Power reset: Unplug the dryer for 5 minutes, then plug back in and try to start a cycle. Sometimes a transient fault clears.
- Check power supply: Verify the outlet has 240 VAC (for electric) or 120 VAC (for gas) using a multimeter. Low or missing voltage can trigger control errors.
- Inspect control connections: Remove the top panel (usually rear screws, then slide back). Locate the main control board. Check all wire harness plugs for being fully seated and free of corrosion or burn marks.
- Look for board damage: Examine the control board for burnt spots, bulged components, or darkened areas near relays. If present, the board must be replaced.
- Replace control board if needed: Label and photograph all connectors, remove mounting screws, swap in a new OEM or compatible Kenmore main control board, and reconnect harnesses exactly as before.
When to stop: If the F01 returns immediately after a reset and wiring looks good, the control board is almost always defective and should be replaced or serviced by a professional.
