Possible Causes
Shorted inlet thermistor, wiring short to ground, moisture intrusion at sensor, failed main control input circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Disconnect power and gas supply before opening the cabinet.
Steps:
- Access inlet thermistor: Remove the top and front panels as needed to reach the inlet thermistor on the front bulkhead or blower housing.
- Inspect for shorts: Look for bare wires touching metal, melted insulation, or signs of overheating around the thermistor.
- Test thermistor: With one wire removed, measure resistance. A very low resistance (near 0 ohms) indicates a shorted sensor.
- Replace thermistor: Install a new inlet thermistor and route wiring away from sharp edges and hot surfaces.
- Check control board: If a new thermistor and good wiring still result in F24, the main control board may be misreading the sensor and require replacement.
