Possible Causes

Missing L2 leg of 240V supply, tripped double-pole breaker, burned power cord terminal block, loose wiring at terminal block

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety First: Turn off the dryer breaker and verify power is off before opening the terminal block cover. 240V can be lethal.

Steps:

  • Check breaker: At the electrical panel, firmly switch the dryer double-pole breaker OFF then ON to reset. A partially tripped breaker can remove one leg of power.
  • Test outlet voltage: Using a multimeter, verify 240 VAC between the two hot slots and 120 VAC from each hot to neutral/ground at the dryer receptacle.
  • Inspect terminal block: Remove the rear cover over the power cord connection. Look for burned wires, melted plastic, or loose screws. Tighten connections and replace any damaged parts.
  • Check power cord: If the cord shows signs of overheating or damage, replace it with the correct 3- or 4-wire dryer cord.
  • Control board: If supply voltage is correct and wiring is sound, F31 may indicate a control board sensing issue requiring replacement.
