Possible Causes
Defective door switch, misaligned door latch, broken door strike, loose door switch wiring
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Unplug the dryer before working on the door or switch.
Steps:
- Check door closure: Ensure the door closes fully and the latch engages. Replace a broken door strike or latch if the door feels loose.
- Test door switch: Locate the door switch (usually behind the front panel near the door opening). With the dryer unplugged, remove the switch connector and test continuity with a multimeter. The switch should show continuity when the button is pressed (door closed) and open when released.
- Inspect wiring: Check the harness to the door switch for loose or broken wires.
- Replace door switch: If the switch fails continuity tests, remove mounting screws, swap in a new switch, and reconnect wiring.
