Possible Causes

Restricted airflow in vent system, Stuck closed cycling thermostat, Shorted heater relay on control board, Lint buildup on heater housing

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety First: Unplug the dryer and allow it to cool completely before servicing. Overheating can be a fire hazard.

  • Step 1 – Inspect and clean venting: Check the lint screen, vent hose, and exterior hood for blockages. Clean thoroughly.
  • Step 2 – Clean internal lint: Remove front or rear panels and vacuum lint from the heater housing, blower, and internal ducts.
  • Step 3 – Test cycling thermostat: Locate the cycling thermostat on the blower housing. With wires removed, test for continuity at room temperature and compare to specs. Replace if stuck closed or out of range.
  • Step 4 – Check heater relay: On electronic models, inspect the main control board heater relay. If the heater stays on when it should be off, the relay may be welded closed and the board must be replaced.

Do not continue using the dryer until the overheating cause is corrected.
