Possible Causes
Open heating element, Blown thermal cutoff on heater housing, Open high‑limit thermostat, One leg of 240 V power missing
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Unplug the dryer and turn off the breaker. Heating components can remain hot after use; allow to cool.
- Step 1 – Confirm full power: Verify 240 VAC at the outlet and terminal block. If only 120 VAC is present, correct the supply issue before proceeding.
- Step 2 – Access heater assembly: Remove the rear panel to access the heater housing, thermal cutoff, and high‑limit thermostat.
- Step 3 – Test heating element: Disconnect the element leads and measure resistance across the terminals. A typical element reads 8–15 ohms. An open (OL) reading means the element is bad and must be replaced.
- Step 4 – Test thermal cutoff and high‑limit thermostat: With wires removed, check each for continuity. Any open device must be replaced with OEM parts.
- Step 5 – Clean lint and check airflow: Heavy lint buildup can cause overheating and repeated failures. Clean the heater housing, blower, and vent system thoroughly.
After replacing failed components and restoring airflow, reassemble and test for proper heating.
