Possible Causes
Faulty door switch, Blown thermal fuse on blower housing, Failed start switch, Open belt switch (if equipped)
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Unplug the dryer before testing switches or fuses.
- Step 1 – Check door switch: Open the door and press the door switch plunger; you should hear a distinct click. Test continuity with a multimeter. Replace the door switch if it does not click or tests open.
- Step 2 – Test thermal fuse: Access the blower housing from the rear or front. Remove wires from the thermal fuse and test for continuity. Replace if open and clean the vent system.
- Step 3 – Test start switch (mechanical models): Remove the console back cover, disconnect the start switch, and test for continuity when pressed. Replace if faulty.
- Step 4 – Check belt switch (if present): Some KitchenAid dryers have a belt switch near the motor idler. Ensure the belt is intact and the switch actuates when the idler is tensioned. Replace the switch if defective.
If all interlocks test good, the main control or motor may be at fault and should be further diagnosed.
