Possible Causes
Failed main control relay on control board, Shorted component on electronic control, Power surge damage, Loose harness connection to control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Disconnect power at the breaker or unplug the dryer before opening any panels.
- Step 1 – Power reset: Unplug the dryer for at least 5 minutes to discharge the control. Restore power and try to start a timed dry cycle. If F01 reappears immediately, continue.
- Step 2 – Inspect wiring to control: Remove the top panel (usually rear screws, slide back and lift). Locate the main control board in the control console. Check all harness connectors for being fully seated and free of corrosion or burn marks.
- Step 3 – Look for visible board damage: Examine the control board for burnt spots, bulging components, or melted solder joints, especially near the main relay.
- Step 4 – Reseat connectors: One at a time, unplug and firmly reconnect each harness to the board to ensure good contact.
- Step 5 – Replace control board if needed: If the code persists and there is evidence of board failure, replace the main electronic control board with the correct KitchenAid/Whirlpool part number for your model. Transfer any wiring exactly as on the original, taking photos before removal.
Because this involves sensitive electronics and high voltage, if you are not comfortable, contact a qualified technician.
