Possible Causes
Broken or disconnected moisture sensor wires, Open moisture sensor bars, Corroded sensor connections, Loose harness at control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Unplug the dryer before removing any panels or touching wiring.
- Step 1 – Locate moisture sensors: Inside the drum, find the two metal sensor bars (usually on the front bulkhead). These connect to wires behind the front panel.
- Step 2 – Clean sensor bars: Wipe the bars with a cloth dampened with rubbing alcohol to remove fabric softener residue that can interfere with sensing.
- Step 3 – Inspect wiring behind bulkhead: Remove the front panel to access the sensor harness. Ensure both wires are firmly attached to the sensor terminals and not broken.
- Step 4 – Check continuity: Disconnect the sensor harness at the control and measure continuity across the two sensor bars (using a damp cloth bridging them). You should see continuity; an open reading indicates a broken sensor or wire.
- Step 5 – Repair or replace: Repair any broken wires or replace the moisture sensor assembly if the bars are damaged or open.
After repair, reassemble and run an automatic cycle to confirm that F28 is cleared and the dryer senses dryness correctly.
