Possible Causes
Household power outage or brownout, Loose power cord connection at terminal block, Tripped circuit breaker or blown fuse, Faulty power cord
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Unplug the dryer or switch off the breaker before touching wiring or moving the appliance.
- Step 1 – Confirm household power: Check if other appliances or lights on the same circuit work. Reset the breaker fully OFF then ON. Replace any blown fuses.
- Step 2 – Clear the PF code: Press Power or Cancel to clear the display. Try starting a timed dry cycle.
- Step 3 – Inspect the power cord connection: Unplug the dryer, remove the rear access cover at the terminal block, and verify the 3 or 4 wires are tight and not burnt. Tighten loose screws; do not overtighten.
- Step 4 – Check the outlet: Using a multimeter, verify 240 VAC across the two hot legs and ~120 VAC from each hot leg to neutral. If voltage is low or missing, contact an electrician.
- Step 5 – Replace damaged cord: If the cord is burnt, cracked, or discolored at the plug or terminal lugs, replace the power cord with a compatible KitchenAid/Whirlpool 3‑ or 4‑wire dryer cord.
If PF returns frequently without actual power loss, the main control board may be failing and should be diagnosed by a technician.
