Gas dryer runs but does not heat; igniter may glow briefly or not at all.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Unplug the dryer and shut off the gas supply before servicing. Work in a well‑ventilated area and check for gas leaks after reassembly.
- Step 1 – Observe ignition sequence: With front panel installed but lower access open (if available), restore power and gas. Start a heat cycle and watch: the igniter should glow, then gas should ignite. If the igniter glows but no flame, suspect coils; if it never glows, suspect igniter or fuse.
- Step 2 – Test thermal fuse: Unplug again. Access the blower housing and test the thermal fuse for continuity. Replace if open and clean venting to prevent recurrence.
- Step 3 – Test igniter: Access the burner assembly, disconnect the igniter, and measure resistance (typically 50–400 ohms). Replace if open or physically cracked.
- Step 4 – Replace gas valve coils: If the igniter glows and clicks are heard but no flame or flame only briefly, replace both gas valve coils as a set with OEM parts.
- Step 5 – Check flame sensor: Test the flame sensor for continuity when cool; it should be closed. Replace if open when cool.
After repairs, restore gas and power, check all connections for leaks with a soapy water solution, and test heating.
