Possible Causes

Clogged house vent duct, Crushed or kinked flexible exhaust hose, Blocked wall or roof vent hood, Excess lint in internal blower housing

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the dryer from power before inspecting vents. Gas models: also close the gas supply valve.

Steps to clear airflow restriction:

  • Check the lint filter: Remove and clean the lint filter with warm water and mild detergent if it has residue from dryer sheets or fabric softener. Dry completely and reinstall.
  • Inspect the exhaust hose: Pull the dryer away from the wall. Check the flexible exhaust duct for kinks, crushing, or excessive length. Straighten it and shorten if it is longer than necessary. Replace with a rigid or semi-rigid metal duct if it is thin foil or plastic.
  • Clean the wall/roof vent: Go outside and inspect the vent hood. Remove lint buildup and ensure the flap opens fully when air is blowing. Clear any bird nests or debris.
  • Clean internal ducting (basic): With the dryer unplugged, remove the rear panel if accessible. Use a vacuum with a crevice tool to remove lint from the blower outlet and internal duct. Do not disturb wiring or gas lines.
  • Reset and test: Reconnect the vent, plug the dryer back in, and run a timed dry cycle on high heat with no clothes for 10–15 minutes. Check for strong airflow at the outside vent. If d80 returns quickly, internal sensors or ducting may still be restricted and a professional cleaning may be needed.
