Possible Causes
Seized drum roller or idler pulley, Foreign object jammed between drum and cabinet, Worn or broken drive belt, Failed drive motor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the dryer. Gas models: shut off gas.
Steps:
- Check drum rotation: Open the door and try to rotate the drum by hand. It should turn smoothly with moderate resistance. If it is very hard to turn or stuck, a mechanical jam is likely.
- Inspect for obstructions: Remove the top and front panels. Look for clothing, coins, or other objects caught at the front or rear drum seals.
- Check belt and rollers: Inspect the drive belt for breakage or severe wear. Spin the drum rollers and idler pulley by hand; they should spin freely without noise. Replace any seized or flat-spotted rollers and the idler if rough.
- Motor check: With the belt removed, spin the motor pulley. If it is stiff or noisy, the motor may be failing and should be replaced.
- Reassemble and test: After clearing jams and replacing worn parts, reassemble and test. If LE persists with free-spinning components, the motor or control board may need professional diagnosis.
