Possible Causes
Faulty motor tachometer coil, Broken tachometer wiring to control board, Loose motor connector, Defective main control PCB tach input
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect mains power before accessing the motor compartment.
- Access the motor: Remove the rear or side panel to expose the drive motor. Identify the multi-pin connector that includes the tachometer wires (often thinner gauge).
- Inspect connector and wiring: Check for loose pins, corrosion, or damaged insulation. Reseat the connector firmly.
- Test tachometer coil: Disconnect the tach wires and measure resistance across the tach coil. Compare to service specs (typically a few hundred ohms). An open circuit indicates a failed tach.
- Check harness continuity: Verify continuity from the motor connector back to the main control board. Repair any breaks or shorts.
- Board diagnosis: If the tach and wiring are good but F6 persists, the control board's tach input circuit may be defective and the board will need replacement.
