Possible Causes
Blocked lint filter, Clogged condenser or heat exchanger (for condenser/heat pump models), Blocked exhaust duct (vented models), Failed cycling thermostat causing overheat
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the dryer and allow it to cool fully. Do not continue using the dryer until the cause of overheating is resolved.
- Clean lint filter: Remove and thoroughly clean the lint filter. Wash with warm water and mild detergent if coated with fabric softener residue. Dry completely before reinstalling.
- Clean condenser/heat exchanger: On condenser and heat pump Liebherr dryers, open the lower front flap and remove the condenser unit. Rinse under running water to remove lint and dust. Allow to drain and dry before refitting.
- Check exhaust duct: For vented models, disconnect the exhaust hose and inspect for lint buildup, kinks, or crushed sections. Clean or replace as needed.
- Inspect thermostats: Access the heater housing and test the cycling thermostat and high-limit thermostat for continuity. Replace any that are open when at room temperature.
- Resettable thermostat: Some models have a manual-reset thermostat on the heater housing. Press the small red or black reset button if present, after correcting airflow issues.
