Possible Causes
Blocked lint filter, Blocked condenser unit or heat exchanger, Blocked or kinked exhaust duct (vented models), Failed cycling thermostat or thermal cut-out on heater
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power and allow the dryer to cool for at least 30 minutes before inspection. Risk of burns from hot components.
- Clean the lint filter: Remove the lint filter from the door opening. Thoroughly clean off all lint with your fingers or a soft brush. Wash with warm soapy water if clogged with fabric softener residue, then dry completely before refitting.
- Clean the condenser / heat exchanger (condenser and heat pump models): Open the lower front flap, remove the condenser unit, and rinse it under warm running water from the rear side until water flows freely through the fins. Allow to drain and dry, then reinstall.
- Check the exhaust duct (vented models): Inspect the vent hose for kinks, crushing, or heavy lint build-up. Clean or replace the hose. Ensure the external vent flap opens freely and is not blocked by debris or nests.
- Inspect thermostats and thermal cut-outs: Remove the rear panel and locate the thermostats on the heater housing. Some are resettable (small button in the center). If a reset button is present, press it gently until it clicks. If it trips repeatedly, investigate airflow and heater faults before continued use.
- Test run: After cleaning and resetting, run a timed cycle with no load. If E04 reappears quickly, the cycling thermostat, thermal cut-out, or heater assembly may be faulty and should be tested and replaced as needed.
