Heat pump dryer shows E13; unit may not heat properly; compressor may not start

Safety first: Unplug the dryer. The heat pump system is a sealed refrigerant circuit; only certified technicians should open it.

• Check airflow and filters: Ensure all filters and the heat exchanger are clean. Poor airflow can cause the heat pump to shut down and trigger E13.
• Listen for compressor operation: During a heat cycle, the compressor should start after a short delay and produce a low humming sound. If it never starts, suspect the compressor relay or compressor itself.
• Inspect the compressor area: Remove the rear or side panel to view the compressor. Look for burnt wiring, loose connectors, or signs of oil leakage on the coils (indicating refrigerant leak).
• Reset and test: After cleaning filters and checking connections, unplug the dryer for 10 minutes, then retry. If E13 persists, do not attempt to open the sealed system yourself.
