Possible Causes
Broken or slipped drive belt, Seized drum roller, Seized idler pulley, Failed motor start winding
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Unplug the dryer before opening the cabinet.
- Step 1 – Check drum rotation: Try turning the drum by hand from inside. If it is very hard to turn, a roller or idler may be seized.
- Step 2 – Inspect belt: Remove the front panel and check if the belt is broken or off the pulleys. Replace with an OEM Maytag belt if damaged.
- Step 3 – Check rollers and idler: Spin each drum roller and the idler pulley. Replace any that do not spin freely.
- Step 4 – Test motor: With the belt removed, run the dryer briefly (door switch bypassed safely) to see if the motor starts and runs freely. If it only hums or trips, replace the motor.
- Step 5 – Reassemble: Route the new belt correctly around the motor and idler, reassemble the dryer, and test for proper drum rotation.
