Possible Causes
Clogged lint screen, Restricted exhaust vent, Partially failed heating element, Weak gas valve coils (gas models)
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Unplug the dryer and shut off gas (if applicable) before disconnecting the vent.
- Step 1 – Clean lint filter: Remove and clean the lint screen. Wash with warm soapy water if coated with residue, then dry completely.
- Step 2 – Test airflow: Disconnect the vent hose from the back of the dryer and run a timed dry cycle with a small load. If drying improves significantly, the vent system is restricted.
- Step 3 – Clean vent system: Use a vent brush or vacuum to clean the entire vent run from the dryer to the exterior hood. Remove any crushed sections and minimize bends.
- Step 4 – Check heating performance: If airflow is good but drying is still slow, verify that the heating element (electric) or burner (gas) cycles on and off normally. Replace a partially failed element or weak gas valve coils as needed.
- Step 5 – Avoid overloading: Ensure loads are not oversized and that the washer is spinning out water properly, as very wet loads will extend dry times.
