Possible Causes
Failed main control board relay, Burned trace on control PCB, Shorted component on control board, Power surge damage
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Unplug the dryer and, for gas models, shut off the gas supply before opening any panels.
- Step 1 – Power reset: Disconnect power for 5 minutes to allow the control to fully discharge. Plug back in and attempt to start a cycle. If F01 reappears immediately, continue.
- Step 2 – Inspect wiring harness: Remove the top or rear console panel (depending on model) to access the main control board. Check all harness connectors for being fully seated and free of corrosion or burn marks.
- Step 3 – Look for visible board damage: Examine the control board for burned spots, cracked solder joints, or melted components. Any visible damage indicates the board must be replaced.
- Step 4 – Verify supply voltage: With a multimeter and the dryer unplugged, verify continuity of the power cord and terminal block. Then, with extreme caution and only if you are qualified, verify correct voltage at the terminal block when powered.
- Step 5 – Replace control board if needed: If wiring and power are correct but F01 persists, replace the main control board with the exact Maytag part number for your model. Transfer any wiring one connector at a time to avoid miswiring.
- Step 6 – Test operation: Reassemble the console, restore power, and run a timed dry cycle to confirm normal operation.
