Possible Causes
Stuck or shorted touchpad button, Moisture or detergent residue on console, Loose UI ribbon cable, Failed user interface board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Unplug the dryer before working on the console.
- Step 1 – Identify stuck key: Observe which button appears to be constantly selected or unresponsive. Some models will indicate the specific key in the tech sheet.
- Step 2 – Clean the console: Wipe the control panel with a slightly damp, non-abrasive cloth. Remove any detergent, fabric softener, or grease that may be causing a button to stick. Dry thoroughly.
- Step 3 – Power reset: Leave the dryer unplugged for 5 minutes, then reconnect and test the buttons. If F02 returns, continue.
- Step 4 – Inspect UI ribbon cable: Remove the console cover to access the user interface board. Reseat the ribbon cable between the UI and main control. Ensure connectors are fully inserted and not corroded.
- Step 5 – Check for physical damage: Look for cracked plastic around the affected button or signs of liquid intrusion on the UI board. If damaged, replace the user interface assembly.
- Step 6 – Replace UI board if needed: Order the correct Maytag console or UI board for your model. Transfer any overlay or knobs as required, reconnect wiring, and reassemble.
