Possible Causes

Open or shorted inlet thermistor, Loose inlet thermistor connector, Damaged wiring harness, Failed main control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety First: Unplug the dryer and shut off gas (if applicable) before servicing.

  • Step 1 – Locate inlet thermistor: On models equipped with an inlet thermistor, it is typically mounted near the air inlet or on the front bulkhead.
  • Step 2 – Inspect wiring and connector: Ensure the thermistor connector is fully seated and that wires are not pinched or broken.
  • Step 3 – Measure resistance: Disconnect the thermistor and measure resistance at room temperature. Compare to the specification in the tech sheet. Replace if reading is open, shorted, or far out of range.
  • Step 4 – Replace faulty thermistor: Remove mounting screw(s), install the new OEM Maytag inlet thermistor, and reconnect wiring.
  • Step 5 – Control board evaluation: If the thermistor and wiring are good but F24 remains, the main control board may not be reading the sensor correctly and may need replacement.
  • Step 6 – Test cycle: Reassemble, restore power, and run a sensor dry cycle to confirm proper operation.
