Dryer will not start; display shows F26 (door switch error).

Safety First: Unplug the dryer before working on the door or switch.

• Step 1 – Check door closure: Ensure the door closes fully and the latch engages. If the door feels loose or does not click shut, inspect the door strike and latch for damage.
• Step 2 – Test door switch operation: Open the door and manually press the door switch plunger. You should hear a distinct click. If not, the switch may be stuck or broken.
• Step 3 – Electrical test: Remove the front panel or top panel to access the door switch. Disconnect the wires and test the switch for continuity with a multimeter while pressing and releasing the actuator. Replace if it does not change state.
• Step 4 – Inspect wiring: Check the harness from the door switch to the main control for loose connections or damaged wires.
• Step 5 – Replace faulty parts: Install a new OEM Maytag door switch or door strike as needed. Ensure the switch is securely mounted and aligned with the door strike.
• Step 6 – Test dryer: Reassemble, restore power, and start a cycle to confirm the F26 code is cleared and the drum starts when the door is closed.
