Possible Causes
Momentary power outage, Loose power cord connection at terminal block, Tripped household breaker, Faulty wall outlet
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Turn off the dryer at the breaker before inspecting electrical connections.
- Step 1 – Confirm household power: Check your home's breaker panel. Reset any tripped breakers for the dryer circuit. If fuses are used, replace any blown fuses with the correct rating.
- Step 2 – Clear the error: Press Start/Pause to clear PF and resume the cycle. If the code returns repeatedly, continue with inspection.
- Step 3 – Inspect power cord and outlet: Unplug the dryer. Inspect the cord for burns, cuts, or melted areas. Plug a lamp or tester into the outlet to verify stable power.
- Step 4 – Check terminal block connections: Remove the rear access cover to the terminal block. Verify that the power cord lugs are tight and that there is no discoloration or melted plastic. Tighten loose screws gently; do not overtighten.
- Step 5 – Avoid overloading circuits: Ensure the dryer is on a dedicated 240V (electric) or 120V (gas) circuit as specified by Maytag. Do not run high-draw appliances on the same circuit.
- Step 6 – Monitor for recurrence: Restore power and run a test cycle. If PF continues without any household power issues, the main control board may be intermittently failing and should be evaluated by a technician.
