Possible Causes
Blown thermal fuse, Failed igniter, Open flame sensor, Faulty gas valve coils
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Unplug the dryer and shut off the gas supply at the shutoff valve before servicing. Work in a well-ventilated area and check for gas leaks after reassembly.
- Step 1 – Remove front panel: Access the burner assembly by removing the front panel or lower access panel, depending on model.
- Step 2 – Check thermal fuse: Locate the thermal fuse on the blower housing and test for continuity. Replace if open and clean the vent system.
- Step 3 – Inspect igniter: Visually inspect the igniter for cracks or breaks. Test for continuity with a multimeter; replace if open.
- Step 4 – Test flame sensor: The flame sensor is mounted on the burner tube. Test for continuity at room temperature; replace if open.
- Step 5 – Evaluate gas valve coils: If the igniter glows but the burner does not light, or lights once then not again, the gas valve coils are likely weak. Replace both coils as a set with OEM Maytag parts.
- Step 6 – Leak check and test: Reassemble, restore gas and power, and run the dryer. Use a leak detection solution on gas connections to ensure there are no leaks.
