Possible Causes

Failed heater relay on control board, open heating element, loose heater wiring, tripped high-limit thermostat or safety cut-out

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the dryer. Heating components can remain hot after use; allow time to cool.

Check heating circuit:

  • Remove the top and rear panels to access the heater assembly (on many Miele vented dryers it is at the rear; on heat pump models, heater is integrated in the module).
  • Inspect the heater terminals and wiring for discoloration, burns, or loose spade connectors; tighten or replace as needed.
  • Use a multimeter to measure continuity of the heating element; it should show a finite resistance (not open). Replace the heater assembly if open.
  • Locate the high-limit thermostat(s) and safety cut-outs on or near the heater housing; test for continuity. Replace any that are open when at room temperature.
  • If the heater and thermostats test good, the heater relay on the control board may be defective. Visual signs include burnt solder joints or relay casing. Board-level repair should be done by an experienced technician or the entire module replaced.
