Possible Causes
Failed drive motor, defective motor capacitor (on vented models), seized drum or bearings, wiring fault to motor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power. Be aware that capacitors can hold a charge; discharge safely before handling.
Motor and drum check:
- Try to rotate the drum by hand from inside. It should turn smoothly with moderate resistance. If it is very stiff or jammed, inspect for foreign objects between drum and front felt or rear bearing.
- Remove the top and side panels to access the drive motor and belt.
- Check the belt for breakage or severe wear; replace if damaged.
- Inspect the motor for burnt smell, discoloration, or debris in the fan wheel.
- On models with a start/run capacitor, test the capacitor with a capacitance meter and replace if out of specification.
- Verify wiring connections at the motor and control board are secure.
- If the motor hums but does not start, or tests open/shorted on a multimeter, replace the drive motor.
