Possible Causes
Blocked airflow causing overheat, failed cycling thermostat, tripped high-limit thermostat, defective heater relay sticking closed
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the dryer and allow it to cool completely before working on it.
Reset and diagnose overheating:
- Clean the lint filter, exhaust duct, and (if applicable) condenser thoroughly to restore airflow.
- Access the heater housing and locate the high-limit thermostat or manual reset safety cut-out (some Miele models have a small red reset button).
- If present, press the reset button gently until it clicks. If it immediately trips again during use, do not continue operating the dryer until the cause is found.
- Test the cycling thermostat and high-limit thermostat for proper continuity and temperature response; replace any faulty components.
- If overheating persists with good airflow and thermostats, the heater relay on the control board may be sticking and should be inspected/replaced by a technician.
