Restricted Exhaust Venting
Dryer takes too long to dry clothes, multiple cycles needed, drum feels warm but exhaust airflow is weak

Possible Causes
Lint buildup in exhaust duct, Crushed or kinked vent hose, Blocked exterior vent hood, Excessive vent length or too many elbows
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the dryer before disconnecting the vent. Lint buildup is a fire hazard.
- Clean lint filter: Remove and clean the lint filter before every load. Wash with warm soapy water if coated with residue.
- Inspect vent hose: Pull the dryer away from the wall and inspect the vent hose for kinks, crushing, or sagging. Replace with rigid or semi-rigid metal duct if using foil or plastic.
- Check for obstructions: Disconnect the vent hose from the dryer and inspect both the hose and the dryer outlet for lint clumps. Vacuum thoroughly.
- Exterior vent hood: Go outside and clean the vent hood. Ensure the flap opens fully and is not blocked by lint, nests, or debris.
- Test airflow: Run the dryer with the vent hose temporarily disconnected (short test only) and feel for strong airflow. If airflow is strong with the hose off but weak with it on, the house venting needs further cleaning or redesign.
