Possible Causes
Clogged lint filter, Blocked exhaust vent duct, Crushed or kinked flexible vent hose, Blocked exterior vent hood or damper
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off the dryer and unplug it. Lint buildup is a fire hazard; do not operate the dryer until airflow is restored.
- Clean lint filter: Remove the lint screen from the door opening or top panel and clean it thoroughly. Wash with warm soapy water if fabric softener residue is present, then dry completely.
- Inspect vent hose: Pull the dryer away from the wall. Check the flexible vent hose for kinks, crushing, or excessive length. Straighten or shorten as needed. Replace foil or plastic vent with rigid or semi-rigid metal ducting.
- Check for obstructions: Disconnect the vent hose from the dryer outlet and look inside both the hose and the dryer outlet for lint clumps. Vacuum out any buildup.
- Exterior vent hood: Go outside and inspect the vent hood. Make sure the flap opens freely and is not blocked by lint, nests, or debris. Clean thoroughly.
- Test airflow: With the vent hose temporarily disconnected and the lint filter installed, run the dryer on air-only for a minute. You should feel strong airflow at the outlet. If airflow is weak with the hose removed, the internal blower housing or lint duct may be clogged and should be cleaned or serviced.
