Possible Causes
Failed exhaust thermistor, Open or shorted thermistor wiring harness, Poor connection at main control board, Overheated exhaust due to restricted airflow
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the dryer and allow it to cool completely. Internal components can be very hot after a cycle.
- Verify airflow: Before replacing parts, confirm that the lint filter, internal duct, and external vent are clean and unobstructed. Restricted airflow can cause overheating and sensor errors.
- Locate exhaust thermistor: On most Monogram dryers, the exhaust thermistor is mounted on the blower housing or exhaust duct inside the cabinet. Remove the front or rear panel as required.
- Check wiring: Inspect the thermistor's two-wire harness for damage, loose connections, or burns. Reseat the connector at both the thermistor and the main control board.
- Test thermistor: Disconnect the thermistor and measure its resistance with a multimeter at room temperature. Compare to Monogram specifications (commonly around 10kΩ at 77°F/25°C, but verify for your model). If reading is open, shorted, or far out of range, replace the thermistor.
- Reassemble and test: Reinstall panels, restore power, and run a timed dry cycle. If E04 returns with good airflow and a new thermistor, the main control board may be misreading the sensor and require replacement.
