Possible Causes

Open heating element, Tripped thermal cutoff, Loose or burnt heater wiring, Failed heater relay on main control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off the dryer breaker (both poles for 240V) and verify power is off with a meter. Heating circuits carry high voltage.

  • Check supply voltage: At the wall outlet or terminal block, verify you have approximately 240V across the two hot legs and 120V from each hot leg to neutral. If only 120V is present, a house breaker or wiring issue is likely.
  • Inspect heater assembly: Access the rear or side panel to reach the heater housing. Look for burnt wires or discoloration. Tighten any loose connections and replace burnt terminals.
  • Test heating element: Disconnect the element leads and measure resistance across the element terminals. An open circuit indicates a failed element that must be replaced.
  • Check thermal cutoff and thermostats: Test the thermal cutoff and high-limit thermostat on the heater housing for continuity. Replace any open safety devices and correct underlying airflow issues.
  • Evaluate control board: If the element and safety devices test good but no voltage is sent to the heater during a heat cycle, the heater relay on the main control board may be defective and the board should be replaced.
