Possible Causes
Broken or slipped drive belt, Seized drum bearing, Faulty motor capacitor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the dryer before removing any covers. Beware of sharp metal edges.
- Check drum by hand: Open the door and try to rotate the drum. If it spins very freely with no resistance, the belt may be broken. If it is stiff or grinding, the bearing may be failing.
- Inspect belt: Remove the top and rear panels to view the belt. Replace if snapped or badly worn, routing it correctly around the motor and idler pulleys.
- Check bearing and rollers: Inspect the rear drum bearing and any front support rollers or felt pads. Replace worn or seized components.
- Test capacitor: If the motor hums but will start if you spin the drum by hand (with power applied and extreme caution), the start capacitor is likely faulty and should be replaced.
