Possible Causes
Failed drum drive motor, Worn or broken drive belt, Faulty motor capacitor (on capacitor-start motors)
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect mains power. Moving parts can cause injury; keep hands clear when testing.
- Check drum movement: Open the door and try to rotate the drum by hand. It should turn smoothly with moderate resistance. If it is jammed, inspect for foreign objects between drum and cabinet.
- Listen for motor hum: Start a cycle with the door closed. If you hear a humming noise but no rotation, the belt may be broken or the capacitor/motor is faulty.
- Inspect the belt: Remove the top and rear panel. Check if the belt is intact and correctly routed around the motor pulley and idler pulley. Replace if frayed or snapped.
- Check motor capacitor: Locate the motor start capacitor (usually near the motor). Look for bulging, leaks, or burn marks. A faulty capacitor should be replaced with the exact µF rating specified for the Montpellier model.
- Test run: After replacing belt or capacitor, reassemble and test. If E05 persists and the motor does not run, the motor windings or control board triac/relay may be defective and require professional diagnosis.
