Dryer stops shortly after starting, display shows E02 and drum does not rotate.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect the dryer from mains power before removing any panels. Capacitors can hold charge; discharge safely if handling.
Step-by-step checks:
- Check drum movement: With the dryer unplugged, open the door and try to rotate the drum by hand. It should turn smoothly with moderate resistance. If seized or very stiff, suspect a jammed drum or motor bearing issue.
- Listen for motor hum: Plug in, start a cycle, and listen (door closed). If you hear a low hum then E02, the motor may be trying to start but cannot, often due to a failed capacitor or seized motor.
- Access the motor: Remove the rear panel or side panel (model dependent). Visually inspect the motor, belt, and pulley for signs of overheating, burning, or obstruction.
- Check the motor capacitor (if fitted): Locate the cylindrical capacitor near the motor. Disconnect power, discharge the capacitor, then test with a capacitance meter. Replace if value is out of tolerance or if it is bulged/leaking.
- Test motor windings: Disconnect the motor plug and measure resistance across the main windings. Open circuit or very high resistance indicates a failed motor.
When to call a technician: If the motor windings are open or the thermal protector is not resettable, the motor assembly will need replacement.
