Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the dryer and allow it to cool for at least 30 minutes before working near the heater or ducting.
Step-by-step checks:
- Clean the lint filter: Remove the lint filter from the door opening. Thoroughly clean off all lint using your fingers and a soft brush. Wash with warm soapy water if it is clogged with fabric softener residue, then dry completely.
- Check air paths: For condenser models, remove the condenser unit at the bottom front, rinse it under warm running water until all lint is cleared, and clean the condenser housing. For vented models, inspect the vent hose and external vent flap for kinks, crushed sections, or lint build-up.
- Inspect the rear and base: Vacuum lint from around the heater housing, fan, and air channels. Excess lint restricts airflow and causes overheating.
- Check thermostats: Access the heater housing at the rear. Locate the high-limit thermostat and thermal cut-out. With power disconnected, test for continuity with a multimeter. Replace any thermostat that is open circuit and not resettable.
- Reset and test: After cleaning and any thermostat replacement, reassemble, plug in, and run a timed warm cycle while monitoring for normal heat and no error.
When to call a technician: If E03 returns quickly after cleaning and thermostat replacement, the control board may be misreading temperature or the heater relay may be sticking.
