Possible Causes
Worn or broken drive belt, Seized drum support rollers, Seized idler pulley, Failed motor start capacitor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect the dryer from the mains. Do not keep trying to start the dryer as this can overheat the motor.
- Check drum rotation by hand: Open the door and try to rotate the drum. If it is very stiff or jammed, suspect seized rollers or a foreign object.
- Inspect belt and pulleys: Remove the top and rear (or front) panels to access the belt and pulleys. Replace a broken or badly worn belt and ensure it is correctly tensioned by the idler pulley.
- Check rollers and idler: Spin each drum roller and the idler pulley by hand. Replace any that are noisy, rough, or seized.
- Test motor capacitor: Locate the motor start capacitor, discharge it safely, then test its capacitance. Replace if out of specification or swollen.
- Reassemble and test: After replacing faulty parts, reassemble the cabinet, restore power, and run a short cycle to confirm normal drum rotation.
