Possible Causes

Dry or worn idler pulley bearing, Worn drum support rollers, Worn front drum glides or felt pads, Misaligned drum rubbing on cabinet

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect the dryer from the mains before disassembly.

  • Identify noise source: Run the dryer briefly with the top cover removed (only if safe and with all moving parts guarded) to locate the squeal. Then unplug before touching anything.
  • Inspect idler pulley: Access the belt tensioner (idler pulley). Spin it by hand; if it squeaks or feels rough, replace the idler pulley assembly.
  • Check drum rollers and glides: Spin drum rollers and inspect front glides or felt pads. Replace any worn or noisy components.
  • Check drum alignment: Ensure the drum is centred and not rubbing against the front or rear bulkhead. Adjust mounting points if necessary.
  • Do not lubricate rubber surfaces: Only lubricate metal-to-metal bearing points if specified by Rangemaster; do not apply oil to belt or roller surfaces.
