Possible Causes
Dirty or coated moisture sensor bars, Broken or disconnected moisture sensor wiring, Faulty moisture sensor module, Faulty main control PCB moisture sensing circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the dryer before accessing internal wiring. Avoid using sharp tools on stainless steel sensor bars.
- Locate moisture sensor bars: On most Rangemaster dryers, two metal strips are located inside the drum near the lint filter opening or on the front bulkhead.
- Clean sensor bars: Using a soft cloth and white vinegar or mild detergent, thoroughly clean the bars to remove fabric softener and detergent film. Rinse with a damp cloth and dry. Do not sand or scratch the bars.
- Check for loose connections: Remove the front lower panel or top cover (depending on model) to access the sensor wiring. Ensure the connectors are firmly attached to the sensor bars and the main harness.
- Test sensor continuity: With power disconnected, use a multimeter to check continuity across the sensor circuit when bridging the bars with a damp cloth. If the circuit remains open, the sensor assembly or wiring may be faulty and should be replaced.
- Test on timed cycle: Run a timed (non-auto) cycle. If the dryer heats and runs normally on timed but not on auto, the moisture sensing system is the likely issue.
