Possible Causes

Broken drive belt, Slipped belt off drum or motor pulley, Worn idler pulley not maintaining tension, Drum rotation sensor (tachometer) fault on motor

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the dryer before removing panels. Support the drum when removing the front or rear bulkhead to avoid injury.

  • Check drum rotation by hand: Open the door and spin the drum. If it spins freely with little resistance and no motor drag, the belt may be broken.
  • Inspect belt condition: Remove the top cover and rear panel to view the belt. If the belt is snapped, frayed, or off the pulley, it must be replaced.
  • Replace drive belt: Release tension from the idler pulley, remove the old belt, and fit a new belt around the drum, motor pulley, and idler pulley according to the routing diagram (often printed inside the cabinet or in the manual).
  • Check idler pulley: Ensure the idler pulley spins freely and applies firm tension to the belt. Replace the idler assembly if it is noisy, seized, or worn.
  • Inspect motor tachometer (if fitted): Some Rangemaster dryers monitor drum rotation via a tachometer on the motor. Check the small sensor and wiring for damage or disconnection. Replace the motor or tachometer assembly if faulty.
