Possible Causes
Defective drum drive motor, Worn or broken drive belt, Faulty motor capacitor (on single-phase models), Motor wiring or connector fault
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect mains power before removing any panels. Beware of sharp metal edges.
- Check drum movement: With the dryer off, open the door and rotate the drum by hand. It should turn smoothly with moderate resistance. Grinding or seizing suggests a mechanical or motor issue.
- Inspect drive belt: Remove the top and rear panel to view the belt around the drum and motor pulley. If the belt is broken, frayed, or off the pulley, replace it and check for underlying causes (e.g., seized drum rollers).
- Test motor capacitor: On many Siemens dryers, a start/run capacitor is mounted near the motor. Visually inspect for bulging or leakage. Test capacitance with a meter and replace if out of tolerance.
- Check motor wiring: Inspect the motor connector and harness for loose pins or burnt contacts. Reseat connectors firmly.
- Motor test: If accessible and you are competent, test motor windings for continuity and insulation resistance. A failed motor should be replaced as a complete assembly.
