SMEG Extended Drying Time / Poor Drying Performance

Dryer takes too long to dry clothes; loads are still damp after the normal cycle completes.

Possible Causes

Restricted airflow due to lint buildup, Partially blocked condenser or heat exchanger, Weak heating element or low refrigerant charge (heat pump), Dirty moisture sensor bars

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the dryer before cleaning internal components or removing panels.

  • Clean lint filter thoroughly: Remove and wash the lint filter with warm water and mild detergent to remove fabric softener residue. Dry completely.
  • Clean condenser/heat exchanger: On condenser and heat pump SMEG dryers, remove the condenser and rinse until water flows freely through the fins. Allow to dry before reinstalling.
  • Check exhaust duct (vented models): Ensure the duct is short, straight, and free of kinks. Clean lint from the hose and wall vent.
  • Clean moisture sensor bars: Wipe the sensor bars inside the drum with a cloth and white vinegar to remove residue that can cause premature cycle termination.
  • Load size and spin speed: Ensure laundry is well spun in the washer (high spin speed) and that the dryer is not overloaded. Overloading reduces airflow and increases drying time.
