Possible Causes
Defective door interlock switch, Broken or misaligned door latch hook, Damaged door harness connector at lock, Faulty main control board door-sense circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the SMEG dryer from the mains before removing any panels. Do not bypass the door lock for testing while the unit is energized.
- Check door closure: Open and firmly close the door. Ensure no laundry is trapped between the door and the seal and that the door clicks positively when closed.
- Inspect the door latch hook: Examine the metal or plastic latch on the door for cracks, bending, or looseness. If damaged, replace the door latch kit.
- Test the door interlock switch: Remove the top cover (usually rear screws, slide back and lift). Access the door lock assembly from the front panel edge. Disconnect the dryer from power, then unplug the door lock connector. Use a multimeter to check continuity across the switch terminals when the door is closed. If there is no continuity, replace the door lock assembly.
- Check wiring harness: Inspect the harness from the door lock to the main control board for pinched, burnt, or broken wires. Reseat the connector at the control board.
- Control board check: If the door lock tests good and wiring is intact, the main PCB door-sense circuit may be faulty. Visual inspection for burnt components is possible, but replacement of the control module is typically required.
