Possible Causes
Broken or slipped drum belt, Seized idler (tension) pulley, Worn drum support rollers, Motor pulley damage or misalignment
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect the dryer from mains power before removing the top or side panels. Sharp metal edges may be exposed.
- Visual belt check: Remove the top cover and inspect the belt through the drum opening. If the belt is loose, off the drum, or visibly broken, it must be replaced.
- Access belt path: Remove the rear panel or front panel (depending on SMEG model) to access the full belt path, idler pulley, and motor pulley.
- Inspect idler pulley: Spin the idler pulley by hand. It should rotate freely and quietly. If it is stiff, noisy, or wobbling, replace the idler pulley assembly.
- Check drum rollers (if fitted): Rotate each drum support roller. Replace any roller that is flat-spotted, noisy, or seized.
- Install new belt: Route the new belt around the drum, motor pulley, and idler pulley according to the belt routing diagram (often on the cabinet or in the manual). Ensure proper tension.
- Test run: Reassemble panels, reconnect power, and run a test cycle to confirm smooth drum rotation and that E06 is cleared.
