Possible Causes
Failed compressor motor, Faulty compressor start relay or PTC, Blocked heat exchanger causing high pressure, Faulty heat pump control module or inverter board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the dryer. Heat pump systems contain high-pressure refrigerant; do not open sealed refrigeration components unless you are certified to do so.
- Clean heat exchanger: Remove the lower front panel and slide out the heat exchanger (if user-removable). Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water to remove lint and dust. Allow to dry completely before reinstalling.
- Check airflow: Ensure intake and exhaust grilles are not blocked. Clean lint filters and internal ducts.
- Listen for compressor start: With panels in place and power restored, start a cycle and listen for the compressor attempting to start (a low hum). If there is no attempt, the compressor relay or control may be faulty.
- Inspect control/inverter board: Disconnect power, access the heat pump control or inverter board, and inspect for burnt components or loose connectors. Reseat connectors.
- Professional service: If the compressor is not running or the system is suspected to be low on refrigerant, contact a qualified technician. Compressor or sealed system repairs require specialized tools and certification.
