Possible Causes
Dirty or coated drum moisture sensor bars, Broken wire to moisture sensor, Faulty moisture sensor module, Main control board not reading sensor signal
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect the dryer from power before accessing internal wiring. Cleaning the sensor bars can be done with power off and door open.
- Clean sensor bars: Locate the two metal strips inside the drum (usually near the lint filter opening). Clean them thoroughly with a soft cloth and a small amount of white vinegar or mild detergent to remove fabric softener and residue. Dry completely.
- Check for physical damage: Inspect the sensor bars for cracks or looseness. Tighten mounting screws if necessary.
- Inspect wiring: Access the area behind the sensor bars (front panel removed on many SMEG models). Ensure the sensor wires are firmly connected and not broken.
- Test sensor circuit: With a multimeter, check continuity from the sensor bars to the connector at the main control board. Repair any open circuits.
- Control board diagnosis: If wiring and sensor bars are intact and clean, the moisture sensing circuit on the control board may be defective. Replacement of the control module may be required.
